May 13, 2021 — Notion’s primary competitive disadvantage has been its lack of an API, which would allow it to integrate with other apps. With the API entering public beta today, Notion takes another big step ahead of competing productivity tools.
As developers create integrations with their own apps, everyday users can start with three official integrations from Notion partners. One automatically adds Typeform submissions to a Notion database. The other two, Zapier and Automate.io, facilitate custom integrations in a visual, no-code interface. With combined support for more than 3,000 apps, the two automation services allow users to create “Zaps” and “Bots” that connect Notion with another app, then perform specified “actions” at predefined “triggers.”
The API opens a world of new possibilities with Notion, and I’ll be publishing numerous resources to help you make the most of it. Be sure to follow along in the Notion VIP newsletter and on Twitter.
